Zine Workshop
Aim:
To produce a small publication with an emphasis on the theme of fairy tales (folk tales are good too). To each create one page (more if we have time) which will be collated into an original copy and I will also scan each page and produce a small run which will be a minimum of 10 copies.
The residency at Nexus is enabling me to explore the area of Fairytales and my personal focus is on the references to hair in stories like Rapunzel and Donkey skin and the folk story notion of women who hide secrets in their hair that Hannah told me about, but your page could be about any aspect of fairy tales and could be abstract.
To explore this I have been collecting found imagery and text from newspapers and magazines, this is mostly imagery that reminds me of the landscapes/houses described (or imagined by me) in fairytales.
I will have a small resource of collected images and magazines that people are welcome to use but I would recommend people bringing newspapers or magazines especially if there are particular images you would like to use. If anyone has spare magazines that can be donated that would be much appreciated.
The emphasis of this zine is on Drawing and Collage. I’m interested in the imagery that Fairytales/Folk stories conjure up for you whatever that may be!
